Speaker Mike Kolatski, “Basics of building a Mass Notification System”

Mike Kolatski has been involved in security since the late 1970’s, both in the private and public sector. He was a police officer with the City of Milwaukee before moving to the West Coast in 1988. He has been involved in security of 2 World Series and 2 US Open Tennis tournaments along with assisting in the opening of the San Jose, CA and Rose Garden (Portland, OR) arenas and then overseeing the front of house services for both. Having come to the Seattle area in 1998 he was security manager for the Washington State Convention Center for 6 years, including the WTO ministerial convention in 1999. He became security manager for the City of Seattle (working out of the Fleets and Facilities department) in 2004 and stayed there for 5 years before going back to work in the private sector. He is currently the security manager for the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

Speaker Rick Nelson, “What is Healthcare Security all about?”

Rick Nelson has more than 43 years experience in the security field including 34 years in healthcare security in the Puget Sound region. He is currently the Safety and Security Manager for the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and has additional responsibilities in Emergency Preparedness, Fire and Life Safety and for the Mammography program drivers. He has served as a director of security programs at both Virginia Mason Medical Center and Franciscan Health System and the Vice President of Northwest Protective. He is the Founding Chair of the Washington State Chapter, International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety, and has served as that organization’s Regional Chairman, and also on the Board of Directors, He led the chapter to the Chapter of the Year and received the Faculty Chair Award for his efforts in training and mentoring. He also was Chair of our Puget Sound Chapter of ASIS and led the chapter during its award of the Chapter of the Year. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and Justice from Central Washington University and a Masters in Public Administration degree from Seattle University. Rick is both a Certified Healthcare Protection Administration and a Certified Protection Professional.

Parking is fee only. There is per hour street parking and multiple pay lots on Fairview Ave.
* At the conclusion of the event at 1pm campus tours will be available by FHCRC Security
